HL Tiger 1 upgrade gearbox instructions
Installation of upgrade gearboxes for Hen Long 1/16 Tiger 1
( complied upgrade kit )
complied upgrade kit includes :
2 new gearboxes with 380 type motors
modified out-drive-shafts to fit with the Hen Long Tiger 1 sprockets
spacers already glued to the gearboxes
additional spacers for alignment-adjustment of the out-drive-shafts
M3x10 hex-head screws with washers for the drive-sprockets
M3x16 hex-button-head screws to mount gearboxes
( additional M3x20 just in case you spacer the gearboxes differently )
1.5 / 2 / 2.5 mm hex-keys
this is just a brief installation instruction ,
assuming you are familiar with the inside and the disassembling of the Hen Long 1/16 Tiger 1….
Remove 1 pin of each track to separate tracks and remove them
Remove the cap of the drive-sprockets and remove drive-sprockets by
Loosen the screw inside the drive-sprockets
Remove screws in the bottom of the hull to remove complied upper deck
Unplug the wiring
Disconnect the motor-wiring …mark which wires go to the left and right motor
Remove original gearboxes …..
Now you have to prepare the hull for the new upgrade gearboxes
Cut out the front center mounting post for the upper hull
Cut out the support studs for the old gearboxes…
But DO NOT cut the actual mounts ! we reuse them for the upgrade gearboxes…
drill the original gearbox-mounting holes all the way through
with a 3mm or 1/8” drill bit
( gearbox-mounts marked here in the photo with the hex-screws )
cut the suspension-springs shorter otherwise they will rub on the new gearboxes …
remove the out-drive-shafts ( including the gears ) from the new gearboxes
Install new gearbox with M3x16 hex-button-screws
( empty gearboxes just for demonstration )
check alignment though the hole in the hull …
if it looks good so far , check the alignment with the out-drive-shafts …..
if you can feel just a slide drag ,
you may want to ream or drill the hole in the hull bigger ….
Or try to get a better alignment by adding a spacer …..
You should not need additional spacers ,
but I would not be surprised if there is a slide difference from hull to hull
on this Hen Long Tiger's….
attaché the additional spacers with scotch tape and center them with screws,
( they should be removable as long you are not sure what spacing you need )
after you got the correct spacing ,
you can glue them either to the existing spacers on the gearboxes
or in to the hull
after you got the correct alignment, re-install both gearboxes in to the hull,
and install the out-drive-shafts with there gears ….
Connect the motor-wiring ….and check proper rotation
You should be ready now to reassemble everything and go for your first test-run…
