Michiana Armored Combat Vehicles Fall Battle
Date: October 30, 2004
Location: Plymouth, IN
Tank commanders were slow to muster on the fine autumn day. Some due to long forcedmarches, others due to a little too much R&R the night before. The battles started slowly with the Allies sending recon forces to test the Axis front. None of the recon forces returned causing the Allied commanders to muster all of their armor for the upcoming battles. At first, the number of Allied and Axis commanders was even. But due to superior tactics and weaponry, the Allies continually repulsed from their objects. It made no difference if they were trying to liberate the objective village or defend a town. The result was always the same. It must be noted that the Allies had numerous rookie commanders on this day (as did the Axis). The Allies retreated to their lines for a quick meal, go over tactics, and lick their wounds. During this time, the Axis commanders quickly had repairs done and their vehicles resupplied. When the battle commenced after this brief respite, the Allies had increased their numbers to have a slight advantage. This did them little good as battle after battle led to just more smoldering Allied tanks on the battlefield.
Occasionally, the Allies had to try to figure out how to attack a Jagdtiger that they could not damage from the front due to its massive frontal armor. This caused quite a problem for the Allies as the Jagdtiger was joined by a TigerI to repulse any flanking maneuvers that the Allies tried.
Slowly day turned into night. The Allied commanders were hoping that this might give them the advantage that they needed to take at least objective this day. Sadly, after the dust cleared from the last battle of the evening the Allies were again sent back to their lines with their respective tails between their legs. The Axis had a fine day of it today while the Allies would not be writing about this day in their journals.
Many thanks must be sent out to all who participated in this battle day. Especially the commanders who drove for hours to get together with MACV just to talk. A special thanks must go out to Larry Godson for driving from Chicago to just watch and show us his outstanding 1/6th scale E8. This model was built by Evan Johnston and Larry is doing the final detailing.
